I tried installing 16-17 SW student edition yesterday.
I called they said the installation sever was down yesterday.
It still allowed me to install it but it never prompted me to install the 2nd disc.
When I open SW It has really tiny text and is not functional.
If I uninstall it, I'm afraid it will make my serial number inactive. Does that happen?
I once transferred a licence into the cloud or something while re-installing my pc. I didn't know where it went, but it got found again immediately after. There is a transfer tool inside SolidWorks, can you access that?
Let's back up a bit, ok?
First, what are your system specs (OS, RAM, graphics)?
SolidWorks is installed from a DVD, so there is no second disc needed. I can only assume that you have a 32-bit disc and a 64-bit disc. Make sure you used the correct one.
If you still are having problems, reinstall SolidWorks. Where you are doing it on the same machine, there is no need to transfer your license.
Intel core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, 8 GB SSD
Both discs say 64-bit. they say 1 of 2 and 2 of 2.

You can uninstall SolidWorks, then reinstall it without transferring your serial number. During the uninstall process, you should be prompted about whether or not you'll be reinstalling on the same computer. From there the install manager will guide you.

There is no x32 bit version of SolidWorks anymore (I know you know that and forgot).
SolidWorks 2016 comes with 2 discs (1 of 2 and 2 of 2). It is a 9 plus gig download from the website these days that has been split unto two discs.

I had no idea it was such a large download, Anna! I guess I should be paying closer attention...
I did know about the 32-bit, but the second DVD through me off.
Does the tiny text have something to do with scaling, for example in Windows 10 with a high resolution display?
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing it? I can't imagine that a server would have anything to do with the installation.
