I'm getting this weird error on copying files from my machine to thumb drive. Any one seen this error?
Format the thumb drive to NTSF.
Error is not coming on all files so not sure if it is NTSF or something else. I'll keep an eye and make sure all drives are set to NTSF.
That's interesting - keep us posted if you ever figure it out - The first thing that I thought of was the Fire Wall settings, but that shouldn't be it - is this from PDM??
I think scott Lyon is Right your thumb drive is in FAT32 format so backup your data and format the thumb drive to NTFS.
If you right-click on one of the files in Windows Explorer and select Properties, you'll see on the Details tab some of the properties that wouldn't make it if the file were copied to a non-NTFS drive. They are written to an Alternate Data Stream (ADS), and FAT-formatted drives don't understand ADS.
It depends on the type of file how important those properties are. If you have spent a lot of time adding Titles and Comments and Authors and Authors' e-mail addresses to your Word documents' docprops, for example, that work would be lost.
If you can live with the loss of those properties, go ahead - standard properties will be re-written to the file when you restore it from backup. This will of course involve time and resources.
To avoid the problem, format your external drive to use NTFS. It might be helpful It is from the In Windows 7 when trying to copy files to an external hard drive, - Microsoft Community
