I understand that you can import a drawing into SolidWorks and trace it, but how do I import an exact drawing to turn into a 3d? anyone?
Can you post a picture of your drawing? or the actual drawing.

In my experience, it is usually better/easier/faster to simply create the model from scratch.
Adding to what Doug Seibel mentioned - Not only is it easier to re-draw, the big thing is to add relations to the sketches so you can make changes in the future..
if i am understanding your question correctly, you want to convert 2d drawing(dwg/dxf) to 3d.

just drag and drop your file on solidworks window, you will get below window.
make the selection as show below to get your non parametric 3d model.
your model should be having proper views for this to work.if the 2d drawing was created with any other cad. this procedure will help in saving lot of time.
