I have this imported part that's a back for an office chair. It is modeled with 7 horizontal "channels". I need a "smooth" plain back w/o the channels. I don't know of a way to remove them from the imported part since there are no features and re-modeling w/o the channels has proven to be beyond my capabilities. Can anyone offer any helpful hints on how to do this?

Try using Insert>Face>Delete This should be able to remove the features you are wanting. Might need to break it up into a couple of commands if it doesn't work as one.

.. you'd need to offset the main surfaces.. untrim/extend/trim.... multiple steps...
.. this model is also not symmetrical.. as you see on the right side, it's thicker and the blends are different..
Paul, thanks much for your help. With your permission I'll use the model you did. I've been a SolidWorks user for years but have little exposure to surfacing. I'll definitely try out your suggestions. You are correct that the part isn't symmetrical; and it seems to have the right side of the model parallel to the front plane which I thought a bit odd. Maybe that occurred in the import process.

Stepehen,.. sure, please use it, glad it's useful.
..the import is correct.. it was modeled that way.. imagine the profile on the left was used in what may have been a sweep (or bi-rail),.. it deviates/flares slightly from the left to right... they cleaned up the blend on the right to make it look balanced.
