SW2008 Student Edition

I have had SW2008 edu for a couple of months and have tried the hotfix and every other option I read about but COSMOS would still not work. So I thought if I did a clean "uninstall" and reinstalled SW2008 edu it may run COSMOS correctly. Now after the reinstall when I start Solidworks the image that appears during bootup is for the professional version and not the student version. A message box then appears and informs me that I do not have the correct license to operate Solidworks and the program shuts down. Somehow I think the regular version of Solidworks is also on the disk and now the program does not realize I want the student version and is attempting to run the professional version. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem please let me know.
