I've been getting files from customers that I can't open. I suspect it is because I am on an older version of SW. Is there a way to tell what version of SW a file was created by without opening it?
This was implemented in 2015 based off the SW2015 What's New PDF.
So if you are running SW2014 you won't have this feature.
Yes - In file explorer right click the file and select properties......
Great! I had no idea you could actually view this property.
Edit: Bummer, there's no such option in my Windows 7 installation.
You can also set up your windows explorer to show this.
Hmmm. I'm not seeing that line.
Did you try the properties in SolidWorks Explorer - should be something there.....
Which version of SW you've?
Just checked SW Explorer - right click a file
Still no luck. Here's what that one looks like. I'm on SW 2014 if that makes a difference.
Go to Window explorer and set the property from there. Added a video.

You have to click on the Details tab.
Edit: I see you figured that out. Anyway, I'm still using Win 7, so that's not the issue. Do you have SW Explorer installed? If not that may be why you aren't seeing it.
Ooops, unfair comparision. Here it is with the details tab sleceted.
Check the video in my above reply for accessing that via window explorer.
I know this might be considered semantics but, the original question was asking for created version not last saved version.
I don't get the last saved version either.
Win 7, SW 2015
There is no way without opening the file to find a version it was created with. And even there could be a chance that file might have been created/modified using various versions. So best is to find the last saved version to make sure once can open the file
Check the video on my post above on how to find that info from window explorer.
ok i looked and i don't have that column
explorer is installed
Yep. I did say created. Truth is, I should have said last saved.
I don't seem to have that option. See attached.
Did you see my question above about whether or not you have SW Explorer installed?
I do. Still don't get the properties everyone else is.
That explains it! Case closed. Thanks for all your efforts.
