I can see the model in this part file 3 days ago, but today i cannot see it.
And it cause many mates errors in assembly because the model( lines\ faces\etc.) is disappear.
This part file is a STEP file, i save it as a solidworks sldprt file, so it only has a Rawdata.

The error message "external model cannot be found" is new to me. How did you open the step file? Do you still have the original step file?

I use "File->Open" to open it, and save it as .sldprt file.(first 3-4 days it is Ok, but later it has this error message.)
I think the saved .sldprt file is not connected to the original step file, so my question is why the error message appear?

Right now I am confused. I used file open on the step file and saved as you described. There is no indication that the created body has any connection to any external file. Have you tried to insert the step file into your original file to see if that will fix the mate errors in your assembly?
No, i have not try this yet. The .sldprt file which converted from step file has mistake, i want to find the real reason but failed.
I guess it is the Solidworks programme's problem.
Hello Li,... I'll add to Solid Air's suggestion which is good.. .. but/unfortunitely,. the edit feature (or reimport of the step) comes up with the external error, .. now, save your step file as a *.x_t (parasolid)... then, do you edit feature to reimport the new x_t.... hopefully that helps?
The step file can be directly imported into the original SolidWorks part file. No need to first convert it into a parasolid. From the SolidWorks menu select Insert, Features, Imported and in the Open dialog, select step from the drop down found to the right of the file name field.
Next time i will try to use real solidworks files, not any other step or x_t files, because maybe i will meet this problem again.
