Splices and diodes!

anyone have any suggestions as how to deal with these? the diodes are routed in line and then have to be routed back to a different wire. the splices, are, well pretty much self explanatory (a wire coming off a wire).

For the diodes I tried making a blank part but then half of the wire is still not defined and i get an error on my from to list.

The splices I am just not sure what to do with.

Does routing have any functionality to deal with these features in electrical files? I can see how it would work if you could just add a note to a drawing but I am importing from a 3rd party program and these are listed in the from to list.

Correct Answer

In the From Reference and the To Reference, you name the splice (EX: I use "Splice 1, Splice 2......ect). In the From Reference Pin, Part Number, To Reference Pin, and Part number use the value "*" (asterisk). I am attaching the Excel template I use. It may not exactly meet your requirements, but you might find the notes helpful.

Tim,

I am not sure about diodes, but I may be able to help with splices. If you edit route and right click on the route, you will have the option to Split Entities. Click Split Entities and then select where on the route the splice will go and accept. Right click where the newly created split is and select Split Route. Under the route you will see a new junction point (EX: JP1). Now you can name that splice to your specifications. The name will appear at the splice when you rebuild the route.

Thanks Shan, that sounds pretty straight forward when creating a route on the fly. But what about when importing a from-to-list? The splice is listed as a component in the from-to-list. It always asks me to insert a component for the splice after importing. If I delete the splice from the from-to-list then some of the wires become undefined in the cable.

Hey, Good afternoon,

i encountered a similar problem with creating a FROM-TO table that represents splices...

can you please help me with it?

in the Example the splice is named S1 and S2

there are 3 connectors P1, P2, P3 each have 2 pins A,B

this is what i tried, though i got all wires with errors while connecting them...

Effect: 3 connectoirs with nothing connecting

What did you mean by setting FROM REF, FROM PN and FROM PIN to "*" ?

Did you already set up your splices by using the Split Route command? You have to right click on the route, select Split Route, and place the point on the route about where the splice would go. You can dimension the point to put it exactly where you want it on the route.

Let me know if that solves your problem. If not, could you send me your route assy. If you can, I'll look at it and see what the problem is.

  I can't remember how I set up the reference links the template, but this should give you what you need and you can modify it to your application. Click "Insert / Tables / Bill Of Materials.....". Then select the attached template in the "Table Template" box in the BOM table properties. Select the "Parts only" radio button. This should give you the table including the splices. I am not sure how you set up the harness, so I am kinda hoping it will work for ya. If you need further clarification or need me to go back and try to remember how I set up that template, I would be happy to help.

  I am not sure how I made the reference links for the attached BOM template, but you might find it helpful. I believe the template will have all of the information you need and then you can modify it to fit your uses and then save as your own personalized template. Save the attached template somewhere and then in your drawing, click "Insert / Tables / Bill Of Materials.....". Select the template in the "Table Template" box and select the "Parts only" radio button. When you click "OK", the table should then be created and should have the column headers of "Circuit Number", "Wire", "Length", "From", "From Pin", "To", "To Pin", and "Circuit Function". This should work if you used the From/To list template that I gave you. Since I don't know how you are setting up your harnesses, I am hoping that this will work for you. If you need clarification or need me to go back and try to remember how I set up the template, I would be happy to. Let me know how it works.
