Exploded Configs

This might be crazy... but is there a way to "Exploded" a Part with configurations into individual part files?

for example I have a part with 100 configs can I turn that into 100 parts each with one config?

Ok, I received permission to post it. Go to http://www.kcswug.com/programs/ and you will find a file called BWIR_Utilities.zip. Inside this is an msi file that will install the BWIR utilities. Then inside SW you need to turn on that addin and you will then have a menu. One of the items in that menu is called Configuration Extract, which saves out each config as a separate file.

There are also other useful items there - take a look. You can also go to their website at www.bwir.com and check out their other offerings.

The only way I know is with elbow grease, manually saving each config as a new part then deleting the other configs. It may be possible with a macro/API but that is beyond my knowledge.

Look at the export and convert functions in Task Scheduler. You might be able to generate parasolid files from your master and then convert those into parts.
They won't come with features, I'm afraid.

    I used to have a macro from Barry-Wehmiller that would do that. I'll look for it tonight.

      A macro with that function would be very useful. Please look and post if you do find it. Did this macro remove all features that belonged to other configurations also?
      
      We would use this when sending tooling components out to a vendor to ensure that they don't use the wrong configuration or unsupress from another configuration and cut steel to the incorrect geometry. Because of this fear we currently steer clear of configurations.

        I found what I had and it's part of a CD that I got from them. I have been trying today to reach a person there as I would not feel right about just posting it without permission. I will continue to try, though.

        Thanks so much for that utility.
        It works great.
        I downloaded and installed in a couple minutes.
        It saved all the configurations including derived configs to the same folder as the original with the same name using the config name as a suffix.
        This is an excellent tool.
        
        EDIT: You will however have to delete any suppressed features manually unless there is a macro to do this second step.

        Yes thanks Wayne - this tackles 1/2 of the problem at least. I'd think someone versed in VB could pretty easily write a macro to do that. Hopefully someone will hear our call for help.

        I downloaded the file, but when I run it, the configuration extract button is grayed out. Do I need to have something highlighted or do another step? THere are several configurations in my files.

        It sounds like you are trying to use configuration extract for an assembly.
        I'm pretty sure this was for parts only.
