I have been having a heck of a time with solidworks. I couldn't get any equations to work. After many reinstallations and other troubleshooting it worked. But the I didn't have the expected version for hole wizard. SO I managed to change the solidworks data and it worked. EXCEPT now whenever I do a feature the second sketch will not solve. Just instantly turns yellow and offers no help. Any ideas?
The first thing that comes to my mind is you have lost the sketch plane for your hole positions. You can reassign it, right click on the top sketch in your hole feature, see below.
Thanks but I know that's not the case. It happens as soon as I made it and when I went into the sketch it was the depth line that was red. Currently it is fixed on my computer. What I did to fix it doesn't make sense though. I went through all the different types of holes and different sizes. For a bit it was only affecting the 3/8 socket head cap screw and it also made it so that the counter-bore was deeper than the hole. after I kept selecting them all and switching it finally made it so that the 3/8 hole was solved and I have no more problems. I didn't change the toolbox data base or anything. It might have finished solving at that point and I refreshed it but it makes no sense as to why it would affect another computer and this shouldn't have fixed it...
Ooops, you said second sketch in your original message. I see. Can you attach a model that has this problem occurring?

I hope I can get the problem to repeat so I might make sense of it, but can't imagine it would cause my computer to start making bad holes on my own projects. Perhaps I'm underestimating the scope of your problem, you reinstalled SW over this? Is your VAR involved, maybe they should be.
Another thought, kinda basic though. How do you have the hole terminating (blind distance / up to surface / thru all)? A conflict in this selection could cause a problem in the second hole definition sketch. Chances are you have already gone beyond this idea.

I have had it cause the same problems on my coworkers computer after giving him a sample file from mine. Currently mine has solved itself. Not sure how(I explained that earlier). So if I were to get you a file it will be off of my co-workers and it will be tomorrow. I did not reinstall it because I had just reinstalled it to fix something else(equations) but I did repair it and it didn't seem to work.
My VAR is involved and are waiting to hear if it happens again.
I did try different depths and it didn't seem to matter.

Initially I thought your SOLIDWORKS Data folder was faulty. However when I reviewed your file, I realised that you had set the Depth of the 3/8" counterbore hole to be 0.375". The Depth is from the top face to the bottom of the drilled hole (for the shank of the bolt). But the counterbore itself has a depth of 0.375" so therefore there are errors as your drilled hole goes no further.
Changing the Depth to something like 0.5" or 1" no longer will show the error
That makes sense. What's weird to me is that it was doing that as a default. I didn't change anything. It would also make the size of the hole larger than it was supposed to be sometimes. For example I would place the point then change the counter bore type and everything would shrink dramatically.
This is because it's one of those "sticky settings". Meaning it remembers the last value you entered. Not sure why it would make the diameter of the hole larger, but probably just because it had errors and failed to fully define the sketch properly and got skewed.
So if you create a simple straight hole (not a counterbore hole) with a depth of 0.375", it's fine and no errors. If you then go back to Hole Wizard and create a Counterbore hole, you'll see the depth remains at 0.375" as it remembers the last value you chose.
Essentially you should always verify the settings when adding a hole to ensure the depths are correct instead of leaving the default as it will be the last value you entered.
