    Hole Tags & Layers

    Mike Witt

Is it possible to have Hole Tags (the call outs associated with a Hole Table) automatically placed on a layer of my choosing?  I have the Hole Table (and most other things...) going to appropriate layers, but Hole Tags appear to be impossible.  Maybe I'm missing something.  After the Hole Tags are created I can select them and move them to a layer, but for the life of me I can't see where to assign them by default.

It appears (if, in fact, this is not possible) that it is an over sight.  As, so far as I can tell, most all other items placed on a drawing can be automatically placed on a layer through settings in Document Properties.

My reasoning for wanting to do this:  We use a lot of flat plate to manufacture our machines.  So much so, that we purchased a water jet.  I would like to ease the process and eliminate as much human error as possible for the guy sending files to the water jet.  So, currently when files are brought into the water jet programming software we can easily turn off Dimensions, Titleblocks, Hole Tables, Center Marks, etc.. by turning off their respective layers.  But, we must navigate around the DXF files and manually delete Hole Tags.  Sooner or later I'm going to end up with a little "A1" cut through a plate.

The only work around I see is having the designer turn off all other layers in SolidWorks, window the Hole Tags, and manually change their layer.  But, this is right back to human introduced error.

Seems like there should be an option, since nearly all else can be automatically placed on a layer.

While we're at it, what about cosmetic threads?  Same issue and reason.

      Hope I'm just missing something.

This is a current limitation. Please check knowledge base and vote for SPR #: 763329

How do I "vote" for an SPR?  I see no way to in some way state: I want this too!

I see a place to pat the person who wrote the summery on the back, Nice writing buddy!  I see where I can describe my search experience, handy!  I can add comments, not sure they are needed here, after all the first person nailed the problem.  And the last area, I don't know, it just seems like more validation for the guy who worked on the search for the website.  "Did I find what I was looking for?"  I guess, I searched for that specific SPR number.  I would like to know what the feature is added.  But honestly, what I'm really looking for would be a date when the request was made, the number of people who are interested in this request, an estimate of when (if ever) there is a planned fix, is this considered a bug or an enhancement request (seems like a bug to me), and that's just off the top of my head.

I see no way to add my name or otherwise "VOTE" for the SPR.

Also, when I hit submit, there is an error.  So, I'm not sure my comments got added.

              See attached screens.

If I knew it was going to error, I would not have rated my search so highly.
