Is there an Online Only version of SolidWorks available?
Got this in my email just now.
The Online Product Trials mentioned in that email are based on a service Fra.me and allow users to evaluate SOLIDWORKS on a their virtualization platform without having to have a supported hardware locally. Someone from SOLIDWORKS would have to comment on whether it will be an option for actually using SOLIDWORKS in the future.
Right now you could run it on Fra.me yourself but i seem to remember some debate over whether it is within the EULA, likely because it could make the software available across multiple regions.
Does anyone know what this is?
It does say at the bottom, "Don't miss your chance to try SOLIDWORKS Premium..." Is this just about trying the "Premium" product or do you think there's an on-line offering?
My understanding is that the online version is currently offered as a way for people to try it out without the overhead of large file downloads. There is a contract change which will allow purchasing SW on a limited-term basis at some point in the future. It would not surprise me to see an online version of some sort at some time later.
Clarify that it's not a "phishing" site first......
Not Phishing. I clicked on link in email and it brought me to this web page...

Can we insinuate that an online only version (like OnShape) is not only in the works, but not that far away?
I would suggest not "insinuating" anything. I don't know if any date has been decided on and it would not be fair to anyone to assume something. If you can benefit from using any current offers - take advantage of it. If something is not there, don't count on it yet.
I just received an email from EpiGrid which appears to be heading toward SW on the cloud.
Last years SWW 2016 the cloud based Solidworks package was demo'd live.
Dates were not specified but tablet that was being used was running a fully cloud based version.
This was done of one of the morning sessions.
I don't remember what day (but it think it was day 1), but it could be found in one of the morning session video's.
It seems to me the goal was to get it operational by mid to late 2016, though I had heard nothing since.
Is this the one was introduced in SWW2016 in Dallas, TX
It sounds to me like it is a trial version of it.
So has anyone heard or seen any further mention of it for the upcoming SWW 2017?
It was announced in the SWW2016 Day 1 General Session but I haven't gone back an looked at the video of that to see when it was to be released. Thought it was to be mid year (2016) but it may have been for 2017.
I imagine there will be more information out during SWW2017 .

I clicked the link to check it out and I got a message it is not available to me and contact my VAR for assistance.
" wow online SW trial , let me check it out"
slap!!!! " well that hurt, thats what I get for trying"
The original post that Rick Becker made with the link to that offer was over a year ago.
Maybe it was a short term trial period and is no longer there.
I have not seen anything other than this post about that offer.
If you click the link that Rick Becker gives on one of his later replies, that link does open a trial online offer page. However, in that page that opens - in the agreement terms it says "Offer valid upon completion of on-line product submission form. Offer expires February 28, 2017 at 11:59 pm " so it looks like it is no longer valid.
I received a email on the 8th, I just saw this post today.

Interesting - This is the first I have seen anything about that since SolidWorks World.
I am a bit surprised they introduced this now instead of waiting for 2018 to come out in a couple months.
On the other hand, if you hadn't tried it before (or hadn't tried 2017) and you like it then when your 30 days are up they can say "If you think that's good, just wait till 2018 arrives.
