Part follows spline...

I have a part mated to a spline, in some places the spline is straight then the spline will make a 90deg turn. Originally I was moving the part by changing a distance mate at different time during the animation but I am not sure that will work for pushing the part around a corner.

What will be the best way to do this? The spline makes several 90deg turns and the part will eventually end up moving back in the same direction it came from.

Would it be better to pick a time on the timeline then just move the part to the location manually?

Any other suggesstions?
