DXF/DWG mapping

We are trying to automate exporting DWG files of our parametric sheetmetal parts to our NC punch. The NC software requires that special tooling like "Knockout" punches by on separate layer. I've messed around with the mapping file but I don't see an option to do this. You can only seem to map "geometry" and hidden lines of geometry as a whole.

Any solutions?

Does anyone not have to do this when sending dxf flats out to CNC for programming?

I figure we're not the only ones cnc punching sheetmetal.

  you might be the only ones whose CAM software requires knockout punches to be on a separate layer.
  
  the map file is very basic. you're going to have to open the dxf to do this.

  I would like to know what the solution may be. I also output dxf where i need some items on different layers. I can map drawing output to get object lines, hidden lines, dimensions, text, border etc. to output from a (.slddrw) to (.dxf) very easy using dxf mapping.
  
  What is really needed is the abilty to output (.sldprt) model feature edges mapped to a (.dxf) layer named the same as the feature.
  
  Jason, this solution may work for sheetmetal if your knockout is actually a feature with edges that could be mapped.
  
  I am not great at VB code, but suspect this could be done, If only I knew how?

    Well...we currently do this but our program "Geopoint" can recognize the shape of the knockout and assign the tool for.
    
    The new equipment we are getting needs the knockouts on their own layer. We are trying to totally automate this meaning the VB program will configure the model, then output the dxf file. No human intervention.

      That is what is desire... the do my work for me buttons are sweet. They also reduce human error. The process I need it for is output of PC Board models to a .dxf file to be used by our PC Board vendors. They need front and backside traces as well as substrate profile on their own layers for etch and mill fabrication.
