Hello everyone,
I am new to Composer and I would like to ask a few questions regarding updating assemblies in Composer:
- Is there a way to link assemblies in Composer to Solidworks, so when I make changes in Solidworks, it will automatically update in Composer? My company just has started using Composer to produce part manuals and often many products share the same parts, so we would like to be able to update all the manuals at once when we make changes from Solidworks, rather than going to individual files and update manually.
- When updating a part inside an assembly in Composer, is there anyway that I can make the user properties (e.g: Part No.) and actor name to update as well? I tried to update an actor (part) with completely new part (different file name, geometry, user properties) and only the geometry was updated, everything else stayed the same.
Many thanks,
Quan
Hi Quan,
Yes! That's one of the main benefits of Composer, changes made to the SW model can be updated!. First of all, check your import settings. When starting a project, it is important that you tick the following option "merge file into one actor per part". If not, weird things start happening when updating (long story, so just trust me on this one).
Start creating your composer document, create views, move parts etc. Then, whenever you want to update your document use the update option. It is a "manual" process, in the sense that composer will not automatically notice that there is a change in the SW document, but this actually a good thing. Someone else can be working on the SW file while you can be working in the composer file. Then simply update the changes (if there are any) to the assembly once you feel like doing so.
hope this helps.
