I believe i understand you idea of have Excel like functions within Solidworks
Within Configurations Properties you can get what you want.
The difference is seen in the values based in PartialMat Property against both configurations.
I have a Material Property, and Then PartialMat
I use Design Table to fill in a Formula into the value cell for this property based in Value present in Material Field.
Then I can use this in Drawing using $PRP or $PRPSHEET where ever necessary. #PRP comands?
I have attached a set of files where i have demonstrated the same.
All files are in Solidworks 2016 version.
Hope this helps as a workaround.
Thanks for the examples. I think I can utilize both methods to set up a part and drawing template for the rest of the group at my company to follow.
For first you would need a macro to pull the required number of letters from the full string and create a new property. Now anytime you update the full material name, you would have to run the macro again. So for this you can create macro feature.
Other option is to do it manually and check/update every time you make any changes.
For second you can wrap the text and adjust the text box in the drawing.
Thanks Deepak, I am taking a crash course on Macro writing for the next couple of hours, and I shall attempt the task with my new found direction.
