I'm developing a project that needs "Preferences" to be modified by the user. Of course this means that the selections need to be stored in a file and retrieved when the program is restated. What works good for VS2008?
SolidWorks and most other applications save settings and preferences in XML format. But for a small application (with not many changes) saving in TXT or CSV should work fine as well. The problem with TXT/CSV is mapping to the settings in the application (sometimes could forget to modify the TXT/CSV after the application is modified )
Thank you Viktor. I'm just getting back to programming after 4 years. In the old days, I used text files but was hoping that there is a better solution by now. Perhaps a simple flat database of some sort?
If you already used text files for this purpose then try XMLs. They are easy to edit/extend both manually and via code. Just .reference serialization libraries which would save setting for you
