It is nearly impossible to download SolidWorks. I have tried in several different network situations.
I think you'd better contact a VAR for trial version
Remember when we used to use DVDs to install software.
Whether installing Autodesk products or installing SolidWorks - I recommend to my students that they do not use the "auto-installation" processes, by whatever name they are called.
Instead, I recommend they download the compressed install files and create their own installation "discs" (can just be on their HDD or a USB or whatever. Download once and done! Any issues in the future - no problem, the backup install disk is on hand. (or return to earlier Windows Restore Point if possible)
Always works for us. No issues with installing software.
I recommend using the Download Only
I also recommend creating a Windows Restore Point just before install.
Run in Trial mode for at least a couple of weeks to make sure all is well.
Activate the license and create a second Windows Restore Point in case some issue does arise.
The download is timing out. It says it will take 6 hours. I have tried this at home and at work.
Assuming it is timing out on the Download Only option - find a better connection or find someone else with a better connection.
I don't recall how long my download took, but I am pretty sure it was less than 3hrs. I am certain it wasn't 6 hrs.
The files are the same - not dependent on who does the download.
Simply use your personal Serial Number when activating the license.
I understand this. Again, I have tried at home and at work. In this case "work" is a large facility with lots of bandwidth. No luck.
Wait a day and try again or contact your VAR.
You tried a trial version or already have a license for it?
Guys- I don't know what a VAR is. I had a running version and license. Windows 10 update trashed my running version.
It's where you get the license
Then, yes, I have a new license, which isn't worth much if I can't download the program. The VAR isn't responding.
Find a SolidWorks Reseller | SOLIDWORKS
If you had used the Download Only method the first time around - you would already have your install disk.
Ok. But should have, could have doesn't solve my problem now.
What version of SolidWorks do you have?
Is your version supported on Win 10?
There was a Windows Update that we had to disable before installing r2015 on Win 10.
Download the entire DVD per J Mather's image.
Do you have virus software running? That can slow the download process as well.
Does it give you the option to Retry the Download?
If yes keep hitting the retry button until you have the entire contents of the DVD on your hard drive. It may take a bunch of retry's (like 20-30) to grab the entire download. It seems to puke when it gets near the end of the download for some of the smaller bits of software.
Your reseller should be able to burn a DVD for you if needed.
As mentioned above, contact your VAR. If you pay subscription, you should have the DVD.
If you don't pay subscription, this may be the problem.
Which version are you trying to download?
if your VAR does not responding better change it. your paying for their service in yet at times you need them they just not responding
