SolidNetWork License Administrator does not recognize FlexID

Hello,

We wanted to upgrade our SolidWorks installations to 2008, but those do not work with any older releases of the SolidNetWork License Manager. Up to 2007 I did not have any problems, but when I am trying to install the License Manager distributed with the 2008 media the FlexID USB dongle is no longer found.

I also tried uninstalling the License Manager, rebooting without dongle, installing the License Manager and connecting the dongle when the installer asks for it, but that did not work. So right now I use the License Manager distributed with 2007 and ask my users to wait before upgrading to 2008.

Any hints or tricks?

We just upgraded to 2008 sp4 from 2007 sp5 and we had the same issue with the flexid. I spoke with our vars and found out that for some reason if you try to install the License manager through remote desktop to the server it will not recognize the flexID so the dongle doesnt get recognized.

What we did was install the license manager from the actual license server as opposed to remote desktop. Installed it and then went back to check it through remote desktop and it recognized the dongle and all was good.

One other thing to check is to make sure the dongle serial and flex id are correct in your new license file.

Yes, but it doesn't get to the part where it actually reads the license file. That would be the step after recognizing the FlexID.

When loading the license manager did you have the dongle already installed? If so remove it, reload the software, then when it asks, put the dongle back on.

Why not use the older license manager and still use solidworks 2008 licenses?
I didn't update my license manager since SW2006 and it still works. (SW2008 sp4.0 and 3.1 running fine.)

I just discovered a little issue with license borrowing though, but don't think that is a license manager issue.

That is very interesting to me..!! I've never tried it, but I was always told you have to upgrade your license and license manager with every release. According to our VAR.

I actually tried this to begin with but it didnt work. I got a message saying something to the effect of that it could not check out a license because the license server was incompatible.
I dont know if this was the case from installing it thru sp0 first or not. I installed it straight up from a clean unistall of 2007 sp5 to an admin image of 2008 sp4

I had the same issue.

A relatively easy way is to follow the instructions to install an ANY license, then copy the necessary parts from actual license into the created ANY license file (flex-id to replay ANY, and the increment lines are I think all you need).

Works a charm :-)
