Registery keys for document options???

Recently I found some registery entries for what appears to be solidworks document options and I am trying to figure out what these are for. My understanding is that document options are saved in the dot files (for example drwdot) and there are not registery keys for these options, for example the document option for dimension font.

Here is an example of one of the registery keys, it looks like it would control the dimension font but it does not seem to do that, the registery entry indicates that my dimension font should be Century Gothic but when I start dimensions in my drawings use Arial.

Can anyone explain to me what this registery key does for solidworks?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2007\DimensionText\Font\Century Gothic

Speculation on my part, but if you do not have any templates, Solidworks will still create a new part. Thus if you were to delete your drawing templates, it would still open the default template, which is what I assume that registry entry is.

Also speculation on my part, but when you open a new part with a template, I would assume that the template simply assigns values to variables already set. Those variables are set by those registry entries... maybe?

Charles, very good on your first speculation. I was able to confirm via sw that indeed if you do not have any templates that sw will create new template files when the user selects file-->new and sw uses the registery entries I referred to in creating these templates.

So I guess this might be another way to roll out template changes, modify the registry settings, delete local templates then let sw create new templates based on the registry settings.
