we recently started using SW 2016 PDM. We notice the "Default" or configuration metadata is displayed first.
We need to select Custom properties - Summary Information to see the metadata.
There is an option for this:
Make sure there is no check next to 'Set focus to active configuration'
See if the option "Set focus on active configuration" is activated in menu Display->Options. If you want to show properties from Custom this option must be inactive.
To Faur and Jim,
Thanks for the Info - I am looking for the opposite solution - Hide the Configuration and display Custom Metadata.
But this worked like a charm. and big thanks for the speedy help.
PS this my 16th year as a SW user - maybe I take a class or two, someday..... LOL
I noticed several of you have the part description, part number, or revision displayed in what appears to be your windows explorer view of PDM. Am I seeing that correctly? If so, how did you get that to display?
Custom columns. You can have different column views for explorer and search results and you can have them per user/group as well. You can add/edit them via the EPDM Admin tool.
We are not using EPDM - just Vanilla PDM from SW.
I found a workaround for now - I fill out both Metadata cards.
As a group we choice this because we use Configs.
Absolutely amazing! Total game changer for us. I have sent that request to IT. Sometimes awesome things are available...and we don't know about it...and IT doesn't know we need it until we ask...and we don't know to ask until we see it...it's a vicious circle. Has anybody tried using this in a part file with configurations for different part numbers? How did that work out?
Glad to help with what little knowledge I can offer. I am self taught and pick up on the fly.
I have used both for years or at least since SW 2010.
Happy 4th if in the USA!!!!
Also, in case you didn't know:
In SW PDM 2016 the preferred explorer is Windows not SW Explorer.
