i used sw settings transfer, and went through the options and they are all the same.
I'm using an trial seat until GoEng can free up my license from an old machine I'm retiring.
in any number field, simple things like 3*4 won't return value of 12.
This could the VBA issue on the machine. Can you check if this is working in Excel or not
Either way reinstall or repair VSTA component vsta_aide (found under prerequisite folder on the installation disc/folder) OR try the solution offered here: sketch dimensions no longer accept simple equations
so i did load office 365 from the portal, and that all works. Excel does math within cells.
I tried the vsta_aide and found 3 versions: (a client, a server, and just vsta_aide). Without SW running, I double clicked the last version of it and not much was visible. Waited a while, and tried SW, and still same issue.
Restarted and same issue.
Tried to do a SW repair off of the disk. No fix.
Tried the first idea on the other message, found swvba.tlb and renamed it. No fix.
Couldn't find any VBA7 stuff for Win10-64 on the MS website.
I'm not getting an error so nothing to report. I put in something like 3*4 and enter or green check, and it just reverts to the original numbers.
What is your current Windows OS version?
What version of Windows do you have?
This is one of the symptoms of a clash with a Windows Security Update.
It is documented here:
You may need to have a look at the link above and determine whether you did this process when installing 2012 on your machine? I know that in earlier versions you should get a warning about this when going through the installation manager. But I am not sure if this warning message appears as far back as 2012.
I assume you're using Windows 10? If so, that's likely the cause of your issues. SolidWorks wasn't compatible with Windows 10 until SW2015 service pack 5.
OK, yes I have Win10.
that security patch number was not within my fresh install, but might have been in the fresh load and not a patch???
I guess I'll put in SW16, although with the new low contrast icons (shades of light blue against a light blue background?) I can't quickly pick up my desired mouse destinations. I move quick in SW12 but am hamstrung in SW16. I feel like my 10,000 hours of SW usage just went out the door.
Does anyone know if I can switch to classic multi color icons?
Thanks for all the help ya'll.
See Update on UI changes for SOLIDWORKS 2016 SP04 and SOLIDWORKS 2017.
Ha, I began searching for the icon colors and it looks like everyone hates it.
I'm never in the forums and just stay busy working.
I see a solution!
