I'm looking to use MBD, Model Based Definition, but not 100% sure how it is used within Solidworks. I want to embed GD&T and dimensioning data in the solidworks part then when I open it up in other software, this data will be recognizable. Anyone know how to use this and do you have to have Solidworks MBD plugin to make this happen?
Thanks!
Hi Brett ,
This is what MBD is used for , you can embed your PMI information (including tolerance dimensions and GD&T) within your Solid Model and can export to E-drawings or 3D-PDF for other users to easily view your 3D content with all PMI Info.
It takes a little getting used to but I have been using it for about 3 months now and I like it a lot, there are some current limitations when it comes to dealing with sheetmetal flat patterns (it cannot display bend notes) but other than that it is a pretty cool tool.
