I am considering purchasing the student version of Solidworks, but I am concerned it will slow down my Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1QT. Would it help to download SW to an external hard drive? Any advice?
You can check the hardware requirement link for SOLIDWORKS
System Requirements | SOLIDWORKS
You may also have a trial a before making a purchase by using:
Free SOLIDWORKS Summer Edition for Teachers and Students
Thanks Anurag, I'll check out that trial before I go any further.
I'd be more concerned about it actually working on your laptop, versus slowing it down. As Anurag, check the system requirements, especially the graphics card portion, to see if your laptop is capable.
Thanks Jeff, So the graphics card will be the most important. An external hard drive probably wont be much help then. Cheers
Installing SOLIDWORKS on external hard driver is not recommended. Also, when using external hard drive, the performance will depend on the read write speed of that drive.
never do that.
Use an SSD and enough RAM (and ofcourse a decent graphics board)
