Well, alas, I've taken another job with another company, and
to my dismay, they're going to be switching from SW to NX5 and
TeamCenter.
I know there are quite a few of you out there who have either made the switch or are working with both systems. Wondering if you could pass along any advice to help with the transition.
What training material helped the most?
Where are good resources to find help?
What toolbar/interface setup would you recommend?
What system settings would you recommend?
What about modeling techniques/workflow, what's the best way to "approach" a modeling task?
Do they have a certification program similar to the CSWP program?
What tools is NX going to have that SW doesn't? What tools is NX NOT going to have that SW does have?
One thing I've heard is that NX does not have configurations and weldments. I'm going to miss cofigurations dearly if that truly is the case, since I used it so extensively. What will be the best way to approach this in NX?
What mindset changes did you have to make when switching to NX?
Best place to turn to when you're stuck with a modeling challenge/technical issue?
The company I currently work for designs large industrial equipment. Car shredder systems. So there is going to be a lot of conveyors, air systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, control cabins, catwalk, vibratory feeders, chutes, LOTS of weldments, HUGE assemblies, BIG bolts/nuts (1"-4" diameter), etc. What tools does NX have that will be the most useful for this type of work?
I'm hoping that despite the transition to NX, I'll still be able to keep my SW skills honed by doing continuing to do my personal projects in SW (I'm planning on installing Beta '09 tonight), but I'm also excited to learn a new system and get a feel for the other CAD tools that are out there on the market.
If you have any frank opinions regarding this subject and would rather not start a fight in the forum, feel free to email me your suggestions/comments to my work email: bruce.buck@metso.com
