I often open a complex assembly, and need to hide or suppress sub-components to be able to see into the area I want to work on [I do this using the right-click menu]. I often choose suppress over hide because I am thinking it will unburden the computer more and give me better performance.

The problem is this causes the sub-assemblies to be changed unintentionally. I only want the sub components to be suppressed temporarily. Worse still, is that others are working on the various sub-assemblies and I am causing problems for them. Actually everyone tends to work with this approach and accidentally are saving these changes to the sub assemblies.

I figure the solution is to create a configuration in the top assembly called "temp" and when I suppress parts, to do so only for that configuration. However, when I right-click and choose suppress, there is no option to do so only for the current configuration. I realize I can edit the properties of a component, and perhaps there I can selectively suppress in the correct configuration.

I realize I can select multiple components, and then using right-click I can select properties and there I can suppress them for just the current configuration. However, I am wondering if there is a more direct way that causes the component suppress/unsuppress to just default to being for the current configuration.

I am working on SW 2008 sp4.
