I am looking to buy a new laptop for Running solidworks 2008.
I am looking for the best performance from a laptop, so that I can
avoid having to get a desktop, I travel quite a lot. I am
considering the Hp 8710w or the Dell Precision 6300. I have an HP
and am pretty happy with it, but the Dell seems quite a lot cheaper
for the same specs. Also wondering about the Nvidia Quadro FX 3600
Vs the 1600. I am looking at purchasing a system with a Intel Core
2 Duo 2.6 GHZ with 4GB of Ram. I am planning to run Win XP as I
have not heard anything positive about Vista. Will XP handle the
4GB ram?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

It looks like your question got missed. Let me answer a few questions if you haven't bought your laptop yet. If you are getting 4GB of ram with Windows XP32bit, then you should stick with the FX 1600M video card. It will free up more system memory for Solidworks, so you might actually notice reduced system performance with the better video card (but of course, worse graphics performance). Either way, they extra $$ is probably not worth it.
As for operating systems, if you want a nice machine for larger assemblies, Vista 64 bit (as I'm told by other threads in this forum) is a better bet than XP. If you are sticking with 32bit, most people are comfortable sticking with XP.
And whether you go the laptop yet or not, make sure to do a search in the solidworks help files, as well as on this forum for the "3GB switch".
