Select all of the inside faces of the shell and use "Knit Surface" to create a single surface body representing the inside shelled surface. Hide the solid body so only the Surface body you just created shows. Create a new surface to close off the surface body. Use "Knit Surface" again to join the surface bodies and select "Try To Form Solid". Bam! New solid body. You can then right click on the new solid body in the design tree under "Solid Bodies" and select "Insert into new part". I am not sure exactly what you need to do with your volume adjustments. Perhaps a simple extrude cut on the new part would fit the bill.
