I finally got SolidWorks 2008 to run on my machine.
The problem I face now is that it it runs OK but crashes (upon file>open or file>new) when I am in dual monitor mode. I never had this problem with the 2007 version.
I have an ATI Radeo X600 card (I know it's not the best, but it's what I am provided).
Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks

Did you mention the other specs of the computer somewhere else?
Don't use the upgrade option, always do a fresh install. Make sure you get up to the latest service pack, too.
Read through some admin best practices somewhere, there are a ton of things that you should/shouldn't do if you want a solid SW installation.
Turn off antivirus before installing, make sure you have admin privileges, turn off hyperthreading if your computer is afflicted with that, make sure all your drivers are good (even sound drivers and things like that), run a registry cleaner like C-cleaner, defrag before install, make sure you have lots of hard drive space and RAM, clear out temp folders, try to use the Install Manager if you can get it to work, alternately download everything in the first list of stuff in the manual download area and install it just in case.... there's tons of stuff mentioned in a few different places.
Best of luck.
