If there is one feature that causes me more problems than any
other, it would be fillets. Partly because I feel they should be
simple and most of the time, they're not. When I do a loft with
multiple profiles, I expect to put some thought and effort into it.
The same with parting lines and parting surfaces, or drafts. More
often than not, its the d*** fillets that cause me to go Tasmanian
Devil at my workstation. I have learned several methods of
"tricking" Solidworks into placing fillets in areas it fights me
on. I wish there was check-box in the fillet dialog box that says:
"Just freakin' do it!"
I was just wondering with all you experts out there, what methods you may use to work around stubborn fillets. I am not looking for the "just reduce the radius" answer, because that is not an option in all cases. That question I have is: If you have to put in a fillet at a specific radius, and Solidworks won't do it using the default edge/constant radius option. What methods do you use to force it into compliance?
One of the first methods I try is turning off tangent propagation and sneaking up on the problem area, one edge at a time. If the preview turns off and stays off after 10 consecutive edge selections, I back up to the last successful edge selection and hit OK to place the fillet. I then start another fillet feature from the other side, without tangent propagation, and sometimes, it will kick in and finish the fillet, blending nicely into the previous fillet.
I know many others, but I want to see what other methods y'all use. Bring it on!
