Insert > Features > Indent. Make sure you check the box for "Cut" in the PropertyManager.

You can also use the trim feature from the weldment tools.

I was under the mistaken impression that both bodies had to be weldments in order to use the Trim/Extend feature.

That is correct with some options in Trim/Extend.
