Does anyone have a suggestion on how to create a lens coating like the attached pic? Mostly reflective, but able to see through a little bit.
try using cool mirrored glass (Glass Appearances). You can set 3 different colors for glass-transparency-mirroring and
IOR for the amount of mirroring.
In most cases the lens coating has iridescent colors.
Hi Craig ,
I would try using the Thin Film appearance type , you can specify the IOR for the material and the Film independently as well as specify film thickness.
As Scott suggested, Thin Film is specifically designed for this type of Appearance.
In addition to that Scott - I think I would create just a little distance between both features, what that distant is would be trial and error. I'm thinking it would give it just a tiny bit of distortion and double reflection.
Agreed , would definitely give more of a realistic look
Thanks everyone. We are still trying to find the correct combination of layers/materials.
I have been trying different combinations of the thin film with some specular maps.
The ID has gotten some results he likes from using different plastics on the face of the lens and diamond for the main body of the lens.
All those options plus a specular map gets some pretty good results.
Glad you have gotten some good results with the suggestions on this thread. Are you able to share any of your images created here?
Unfortunately I cannot. I would like to show some of the stuff we've done, but all of it is still under wraps to the public.
Totally understand, Craig. When you are able to show anything (cannot wait to see it!), please post them to this main SW Visualize thread:
