At the SWUGN Tech Summit on 05/23/06, I gave a 45 minute
presentation on sheet metal. The introduction material shows movies
of actual press brakes, turret presses, a metal cutting laser, and
a PEM installation press in operation. The last half of the show
demonstrates my favorite (easy) ways to make sheet metal features
– base flange, edge flanges, mitered flanges, jogs, hems,
etc.
Included are my best Gauge Tables for aluminum, stainless,
and steel. Also, you’ll find the Tip Sheet Handout that I
distributed at the meeting. There are assemblies that show the
operation of a press brake with accurate models of Amada style
v-dies and top punches (very useful for “testing” your
design for manufacturability).
The Speaker’s Notes are reasonably complete
(you’ll need PowerPoint to review them).
SWUGN will make this and other presentations available as
soon as they get submitted and reviewed. Watch
http://www.swugn.org for notice.
The turnout at the event was very impressive. Thank you to
all who attended! If you didn’t make it this year, then plan
on it for next year. Of course, SolidWorks World 2007 in New
Orleans is highly recommended as a training resource.
The next COSUG meeting is June 8, 2006. We hope to see you
there.
