Sheet metal problem...

I need some help with a sheetmetal problem. Look at the pictures attached. I would like to have the bend continue on out to the end of the part but the only option on the relief type tear is 'rip'. Is there another way to do this? Look at the part file that is attached as well.

I don't have an answer for you because I couldn't make it go either. But as a small consolation, you will get what you desire in real life as there is no cut there at the end. That end will pull with the rest of the flange.

My guess is that it's because you have included the curved edge, therefore it creates the 3D sketch, and something is happening there. If I create a different flange and only pick the straight edge, the extend option is there. Make sure you turn this in.

I see that the same thing is also happening at the end of the bend right below it in your picture.

I guess the question should be asked, How in a machine shop would they be able to do what you want without the rip? It will need the rip or some other bend relief because of the fold up. Trying to make that bend in one piece isn't doable.

your question implies you're inexperienced in sheetmetal.
when you change direction you will either need to pull flange away from apex or add a relief.

btw, how do you intend on folding this part?

  Hey guys, unless I am missing something obvious here, by the tone of the questions, I don't think you are thinking about a larger picture here.
  
  The part is obviously easily formable in the real world as a die part. He didn't say anything about doing it on a brake press, but his question was dealing with the why of the lack of the extend option at the ends of the bend. Normally it's there and a good way to make the model match reality. The fact that SW now allows an edge flange to be put on a curved surface and the extend option is missing is the crux of the issue as I see it.

    Wayne, you are correct, this part will be formed with a upper and lower die either by hand or hydroforming. This part is not a 'brake' part. I'm creating these parts in SW in order to generate a flat pattern and to have a visually accurate model for drawing and assemblies. thanks for all the input, i'm trying several different ooptions to get a 'correct' model.

        I think I got it fixed....take a little thinking and a little time, but it worked. Surprising enough the 'flat pattern' are very accurate.
