bending a flat plate onto a cylinder

Ok.. maybe i am missing something as I am not the best at sheet metal but I need to make a name plate which has extruded text and cut outs on it, bend to fit in its real life position; namely on a cylinder in a working assembly.

making the flat item as we receive it from the manufacturer presents no problems, nor does making a curved part to take its place as a configuration, but if i can effectively roll the flat part and make it bent then I would be much happier.
Does anybody know a way of doing this?

Flat panel is 236mm by 90mm and is to fit on a cylinder that has an O.D. of 356.8.

Any suggestions?

See attached part.
Slots are no problem, but you will not be able to extrude the text and then bend it back as Solidworks has to have a uniform thickness in order to bend. You would have to extrude the text in the flat and then suppress it in the bent configuration.

The wrap feature with "emboss" selected should do this in short order. Put the wrap feature after the bend.

spot on, apologies to Jeff but your .zip would not open.. I am running 07 premium but it is telling me that I can only perform a cut all the way through and not have extruded text or a partial cut?
now i am just being fussy as the purpose of this exercise was to make sure the products name plates holes matched precisely on the main body.. so it has done exactly what i wanted, however!
if you know a cheat of how to add text then let me know..
if this is as far as i can take it then many thanks to those who replied.. you saved me from an afternoon of banging my head against the desk

Sorry about that. I am running 08. Unfortunately you cannot create extruded text on a curved surface (3D sketch). However you might be able to create the text on a flat plane and extrude it up to the curved surface of your part and also to an offset surface feature. It won't be a real bent shape, but it might be close enough. Duplicate the extruded text as a separate feature for the flat configuration.

can nameplates be bend in the assembly mode? or do we have to create seperate configs to use it in an assembly?

Would this work for you? You can control the shape of the "plate", as well as the text size and location.
