rendering a plain background?

Hi All,

I'd like to render my models against a "green screen". I love the render scenes - Factory, Rooftop, etc. but I'd like to render my models, complete with shadows, against a custom uniform color. I see the legacy plain backgrounds but I need to be able to choose my own color. Any suggestions?

Go to Photoworks/Scene, and select the Room tab. You can change the appearance and color of the walls, floor and ceiling by clicking the "..." next to each and adjusting the color settings.

I saw Rob R doing something similar to this at a user group meeting.

He made his own backdrop/ cloth as a part, created an assembly -then set his parts in front of / on top of -the custom "cloth/ backdrop"...

In your scene editor make sure the walls and floor are checked off and then choose a solid color as your background. It really won't matter what your background color is if you output your rendering to a tiff format as a plain color will not really be rendered but become an alpha channel. Add whatever color you want in PhotoShop.

  are you aware of any settings that extend the tif/alpa functionality to shadows? (is there a way to have shadows show up with alpha info, but have the surface that the shadows are cast on be invisible?)

    Sure. If you're using 2008 you can use the "shadow floor" or "reflective shadow floor" appearances found in the MISC folder. These will allow the shadow and the reflection as well to be transfered with the alpha channel.
