In your system options under color fourth from the bottom select "use specified color for drawings paper color"
I would like to know, do developers at SW just sit around trying to think up useless ways of using memory? As if this bloated program doesn't use enough memory, we need a drawing background that looks like someone put your drawing through a dryer.
As much as I believe the wrinkled paper look is a ludicrous idea, (it was the first thing to be obliterated from my install) I doubt it really takes more resources than the default background; certainly not enough to cause a performance degradation.
At least the damn thing doesn't get printed.
