Edit BOM in context of Assembly

New to SolidWorks. Help doesn't offer much help on this.

Is there a way to edit the BOM without having to generate a drawing of the assembly? Let me explain a little. While creating parts for the assembly, I don't always add all the properties that are required for parts list (description, vendor etc.) I'd like to view the BOM and edit those properties if possible without having to create a drawing view to see which parts are missing information. Inventor has this capability. I have to believe that SolidWorks does too. Just can't find it.

As Wayne said you cannot do it from the Assembly model.

I know you said you didn't want to generate a drawing, but while in the drawing you can edit all the properties of the parts directly from the BOM itself. It writes it back to the part models from right there. It works quick and easy.

There's a setting to override this, if you don't want it to happen.

The only thing with 2008s direct editing within the BOM. The custom property field must be in the part model or adding it within the BOM won't add the custom property to the part model.

  Just a small correction - if the property does not already exist in the part file, SolidWorks does create it in the part as a configuration specific property.
  
  Give this a try...
  
  1) Create a new part with no properties
  2) Make a drawing of it
  3) Insert a BOM
  4) Enter a value in the "Description" field
  5) Open the Part and look at the Configuration Specific tab of the "File - Properties" dialog
