PhotoWorks for Interior/Exterior Design

Hi All....

I have look many consumer products rendered using photoworks. But I want to know comment or sample project from you when use solidworks for interior & exterior design likes House and another building.

My friend have a house build in solidworks, then he want to render them. What is the best renderer for this case ?

Since the model is build in SolidWorks, surely the first choice is PhotoWorks.
If you got powerful hardware, you can consider Maxwell Render as well, it can produce professional , photo realistic quality image.

  Hi Lin, so the first choice is PW. I just think, how about export the solidworks file then render in Vray or 3ds max to get the photorealistic image.

I've never used it, but apparently Hypershot from http://www.bunkspeed.com/hypershot/index.html is supposed to be very good ... and very fast.

Yup, I heard that hypershot is good for consumer & industrial design render. How about use it for Interior or Exterior ?

BTW, any body have interior or exterior building / house produced by PW ?

  I personally would not use HyperShot for architectural renderings at this point. In it's current form it's just not geared for this type of work. (my opinion anyway)
  
  PhotoWorks will do the job but it may require some custom materials and some post processing in a photo editor would probably be helpful.
  
  Maxwell is more than capable but as Lin Said you'll need some good processing power to create the images efficently.
  
  Exporting to 3D studio is another option.
  
  I've done a few interior and exterior residential housing model/renderings using SolidWorks. SolidWorks isn't an ideal tool for this type of work. I wish they'd create an architectural CAD package. You can see some quick interior renderings by playing the "demo video" at www.axiscadsolutions.com . I'll see if I can dig up some exteriors.

  I'm a newbie on Photoworks, and I have this problem. Each time I apply the decal to a preferred surface and have it rendered, Solidworks will crash on me. What do you think is the problem. Please help.

Rob, I remember during SW2008 beta testing, you shown me an exterior rendering of a memorial hall, that looks very nice.

I think PhotoWorks might not suitable for exterior architecture rendering as it did not support following things well:

1. Complex shapes like human model and plants.
2. Physical-real sky.
3. Insufficient architectural material library.

etc.

If PhotoWorks can do architectural rendering as good as 3DS Max, SolidWorks probably will double its price.
I had attend a basic training of 3DS Max, and I realized that 3DS Max is far more capable than PhotoWorks.

  Thanks. I've attached a similar image to the one you saw. PW works well (for me) for things like this but it begins to fall short when things become more complicated. Architectural renderings are just more complicated by nature.

        I have a problem on Photoworks and would appreciate your expert opinion.
        I'm currently running Solidworks 2008 sp4
        My PC to be HP xw4200 with XP Pro sp3
        Video card: Quadro Fx 1700 currently using the SW site driver.
        On SW system options I left software OpenGL unchecked.[turned off]
        My video card was set to use Solidworks 3D settings.
        Still I dont have the openGL option on Solidworks each time I render. I need to attached a decal on a planar surface but I don't have the option. Please help.

        If I understand your question correctly the OpenGL settings shouldn't effect applying a decal in PhotoWorks. If by OpenGL you are reffering to RealView than you are correct. RealView does not have the ability to apply decals. This can only be done using PhotoWorks.
        
        If you have a package other than base SolidWorks then you own PhotoWorks you'll just need to turn it on by going to TOOLS/ADD-INS.

        I have stayed so long on a SW2005 version and just used SW2008 this week.
        I did, I went to tools>addins>Photoworks.
        Problems:
        Attaching a decal on Photoworks, on mapping options I only have projection, spherical and cylindrical. Are there supposed to be another options?
        Using projection options on a dome it automatically mirrors the decal on the other side. Is there an option to turn this off?
        Also if I try to render on Assy level the decals doesn't show.
        I'm totally lost. lol.
        Do appreciate your help.

Hi Lin, Rob...

So I think the conclusion is we can do interior & exterior rendering in solidworks but with some limitations. So for this kind area, use another architecture rendering is the best choice. So we wish solidworks will also create some architecture feature in the feature. But, when ??? Lets make enhancement request !!!

Thanks for all the suggestion. I think I will export the solidworks file to a architecture rendering software.

  Best thing to use if you want to do it yourself. Then you just need to do good research work about the latest trends in design. Now working on a home remodeling project and this tool has really helped in designing and planning the interior and exterior part within my budget.
