I took it after becoming very proficient at daily use of Solidworks. The material that I used to study was primarily the Solidworks Tutorials and help files. Yes I read them and went through it more than once. I can say that it paid off. I am a CSWP. I took the test for personal satisfaction. BTW, I have never had a day of formal Solidworks training. I learned from Hard Knocks University. Good Luck, you can do it!
Ditto to what Rodney posted.
Don't study for the test. Instead, prepare to answer any reasonable modeling question about/with SolidWorks.
The main benefit of the CSWP is to your self esteem, and I believe that benefit is largely driven by how you approach mastery of the tool.
I recommend using an online training course (igetit or solidprofessor), studying both of Matt Lombard's excellent books, as well as the latest books by the Planchards (very good intro material).
1. Do the sample question, it's very similar to what the test is like.
2. Read through the entire exam before you begin working.
3. Pay attention to the little details, it is very easy to miss something and blow the test.
Find tutorials or examples of incontext assembly. Also do the solidworks samples for the CSWA. And I agree 100% with David, especially #3.
Also find the worst isometric dimensioned drawings you can find and model up the parts. This is what kind of drawings you will be looking at when taking the test.
Here is a web site that has a few iso dimentioned drawings. Some are missing dimentions but you can figure out what are if you look at the drawing close enough.
+1 to what they said.
If you have used SW for 3 years, you should be able to figure out the test without too much trouble. READ THE ENTIRE EXAM BEFORE STARTING YOUR WORK.
Do Exactly what they tell you to do!
They are testing you on your ability to analyze the problem, decide what tool(s) to use, and get the job done in a fixed length of time.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE SMALL DETAILS!!!
Ditto to everything above!
Best training: Use the program. Work all the sample problems you can.
Agree to all of the above,
Make sure if you finish early, let the timer run out on its own and do not exit the test.
