Can't Download sp-3?

Purchased SW 2008 in April (no subscription)

assumed it was the latest version but while loading it asked to update, but then it wouldn't let me download sp3 from SW?

It let sp2 download but not sp3?

  No, I'm an ex Inventor user and they let you download all the service packs without subscription. After all the service pack is a patch for something that was supposed to be right when it was first released.
  
  In addition you would assume when purchasing that you were getting the latest version which would include the latest service pack at that time. Why would it let me download sp1 and 2 but not sp3?

    I've always considered that policy VERY Shady...
    Shows true colors/priorities in my op..
    Exactly as you mention Chris... It's a FIX for something that was broken at release...
    Whatever the case... It's just my Op..

      Don't get me wrong, I really like SW and think it's better than Inventor.
      
      But all of these software companies are jumping on the subscription bandwagon using various ruses to persuade people to join.
      
      Basically it evolves from a desire to drive continuing annual profits in spite of the fact that a substantial new release isn't really viable on a strictly annual basis.
      
      I think it takes about 3 years between releases. You can witness this with windows which has these weak releases like ME and Vista that come out between the good ones.
      
      The foundation is the American corporate structure which is beholden to the CEO's and stockholders and not the employee or the customer.

        This whole "Service packs only with Subscription" practice is exactly why new releases are soo darn buggy..
        That way your basically Forced into contract just to get working software...
        I really Like SW too...
        Maybe I'm wrong about all this... Hopefully...
        Just how it looks from a humble User's Point of view...
