SW 2008 has the new universal joint mate capability. I've never been able to test it and I've never had the opportunity to build an example.
Do you have an example of a simple assembly containing this mate ?
Thanks,
Dear forum member and solidworks....
I have tried to figure out universal joint several times.
But not yet success.
The solidworks help only describe a brief information. Its difficult to follow
I wish you can give me sample file of universal joint mate
Thank You Guys,,,, !!!
There is a brief 'tutorial' toward the end of http://gabijack.com/2009/07/curiosity-didnt-kill-the-cat/
Hi Kelvin,
Those link describe that we have to add additional mate to get universal joint work properly.
So looks like universal joint is not too powerful.
Universal joint mate introduced by solidworks in SW 2008.
I will install SW 2008 to take a look some help file that I wish there.
SW 2009 only give us very short description
Maybe Gaby will joint on this thread.
Thanks Kelvin !!!

The Universal Joint (Mechanical Mate) works perfect on SW 2009, attached is a zip file containing a sample assembly with two shafts with their axis having an angular displacement of 15 degrees, and a Motion Study showing the axis rotating with a motor applied to one of them. The condition is that the two axis of the shafts must converge in a common point as need to be on any universal joint.
You can use the attached example to see how it is build.
Have fun!
try to build the wheel axle of a vehicle with the equal-velocity gear...that would be the example of universal joint.
