eDrawings is also available as eDrawing Professional (not just as free software).

What you may not be aware of is that eDrawings Professional is part of the SolidWorks Office Professional and Office Premium bundles. So if a user has either of these SolidWorks licenses installed, s/he is entitled to eDrawings Professional, which is why eDrawings needs to check what SolidWorks license you have on your system.

Other things that make this a bit more complicated - your SolidWorks license may be in one or more of these states : network license, not activated yet, trial period expired, and so on.

This sort of problem is usually specific to license configuration and the Help->Register... menu item in eDrawings gives a clue about the license type.
