Could someone please explain how I create an admin image and
patch that image to the latest release of Solidworks. This is what
I have tried so far:
Created admin image from DVD of 2008 SP0 using msiexec /a
Now, I want an admin image of 2008 SP3. It seems I can only download that from the internet and when I try to patch my DVD admin image using the Solidworks installer I get an error saying it cannot be patched or cannot find some compatible version.
So I thought maybe I should download both SP0 and SP3 from the site, which I did last night. Now, when I try to create a one step installer image from the SP0 I just downloaded, the stupid program says it cannot find disk1 and wants to go back to the internet to get missing software. Wasn't everything downloaded with SP0?
I have to say that Solidworks really made this more difficult than it has to be.
Any help would be appreciated because I am thoroughly confused.

To be honest, I have been playing with the IM, and if Solidworks can get some documentation together for it, then I'll be going forward with that for 2009.

msiexec /i "\\server\SW\english_i386_solidworks.msi" ENABLEPERFORMANCE=0 INSTALLWDS=0 SERVERLIST="25734@general" SOLIDWORKSSERIALNUMBER="(insert yours here)" SWMIGRATE="SolidWorks 2007 SP1.0" UPGRADESWINSTALL=1 TOOLBOXFOLDER="\\server\SolidWorks\Common Data" /qb /Lme c:\SWUPG2.txt
I use the SW Installer now; there's a whole 'nuther set of issues there, but I like the way users get autoupdated better- it's impossible for one to "fall behind" and have the next patch not work. So this also means I could be a bit mistaken about the MSIEXEC method- it's been a while since I used it; there might be a better way. Good luck!
