Seet Metal Blank Dimensions (for BOM or Cuting List)

I see several post on this subject... people need blank dimensions of sheet metal parts to generate cutting list, place them on the BOM, obtain raw material consumption, cost, etc.

Attached is a file with an example of how to do it....

Open the file, take a look of how the "SM-Blank_Sketch" is done... then look at the equations... and finally look inside the custom properties... all that information can be used on BOM's, Lists, MRP, etc., etc.

  can't it be automized?
  
  e.g.
  1. get the fixed face of a sheet metal part
  2. get the boundary box of that face
  3. rotate the face incrementally and re-get the boundary box of that face
  4. keep the smalles boundary box as the blank dimensions....

    By any chance was this part ever put to an individual drawing with a BOM or table?
    I would be interested to see how this data is brought forward. I know how to link and all that good stuff and I probably could sort it out. If you don't have it then don't go out of your way to create it.

This is really great what you did Sir,
But why you added some equations which are of no use,
e.g.
"Mat_Thickness"= "Thickness@Sheet-Metal1"
"Blank_Y_Dim"="Blank_Y_Dim@SM_Blank_Sketch"
"Blank_X_Dim"="Blank_X_Dim@SM_Blank_Sketch"

I m just eager to know.
cause these equations are definitely going to increase a rebuild time, and also will make the model heavy.

and one more thing is after giving a bend at location of fold 1 is it possible to give bend at the root of box, or a previous of it. if so then how?

Its truly great to see the approach of you to solve the problem. I really got a good knowledge today.

  The equations are there to convert the values to "global" variables so they can be selected as values for custom properties to use on the BOM table or to create the cuuting list.
  
  Look at Properties and you will see there how the variables "Blank_Y_Dim", etc., are used, from properties you can use them as input to any equation (ro column value) on a table (when this method was created it was not other way to achieve this), those equations do not increas rebuild time in a way that can degrade the model, we have models with over 100 sheet metal parts all of them with those equations.
  
  We do not create the equations on every part, we use a template which allready have the sketch and the dimensions, once the part is created on the template we edit the plane of the sketch and relate the geometry to the part.

    I did try to create template from Yor part but besides everything is ok but because blank sketch is tied to flat blank face it deletes sketch and I do not know how to create it in order to have it in template and when I tried to copy and paste Blank_X_Dim@SM_Blank_Sketch as primary dimension name SW did not allowed me to do
    
    Can Y explain or maybe posy template I could use to make everything works please

      You can create your own template using the file of the example, the only thing you need to do before you delete the features, is to "unlink" (delete the relations) between the SM_Blank_Sketch and the Flat Blank, and them change the plane of that sketch to any one of the main planes (I ose the TOP plane).
      
      Before you delete features to create the template, analyze in detail hot the part is build and how the values are entered (some of them with equations), once you fully undertand the modeling tecnique them delete features and do your own template. To analize the model you can sue rollback and see how everything is done.
      
      B-Raius@Sheet-Metal1 give you an error because you delete the feature that owns that equation "Sheet-Metal1" Notice that both values for the Sheet-Metal1 are linked to ecuations (Thickness and B-Radius), we do that since on our actual models we control those values fromm "outside" the part, that way we can change the thickness of any parts inside an assembly just by openeing the main DT at the "product-configurator" sub-assembly.
      
      B-Radius = 0.1046 * 0.6 is to define a value for the Bending Radius = to 60% of the thickness (or whatever you may need), Normally in our assemblies this value (the B_Radius) is on a table which define this value for each material-thickness-tool combination, on the example this value is "hard" coded into equations since is was a loose part not related to an assembly where we have the configurator, but that is another complex issue since all our assemblies are 100% parametric and controlled by the "product configurator" (we model everythign TOP-DOWN).
