Graphics Problem

Since I am the "go-to" guy here i get to hear about all the problems.

Well anyways he has a problem with his graphics. When he has a part or an assembly open he sometimes get a "picture-in-picture" effect. See the attached pic the boxed area is what i mean.

We have the same video card. ATI fire GL V5100. He has 3gb memory with the 3GB switch on. We have tried with and without open GL on and get the same effect. I never get any of these problems and he does. Both are running SW 2007 with SP4

The only other thing I could think of is if there is some sort of program in the background running that may cause this.

does this go away with a CTRL-B rebuild? Does it go away if you rotate the model? What is that image that is on the inside, is it the previously opened image? Does that box move around, or is it always in the middle of the screen?

  Sorry i wasnt too descriptive. Basically he will be rotating the screen. Frist the entire model or assembly will rotate then this picture in picture effect happens. (i drew the box on there to highlight the area wherer the problem is) that is when the outside stays still and the inside will start to rotate. He just shuts down SW and restarts to fix it. It will happen anywhere on the screen not just the center.

    This is almost certainly a graphics card issue, although I would expect turning ON the Software Open GL switch to fix it. This is a lame answer, but it is a good place to start - try updating the graphics driver. I'm not a big fan of the ATI cards, but I have still seen this even with nVidia cards.

      I will have him try to update the drivers. But yes software GL on and off did the same thing.

        Do the ATI drivers have a Solidworks setting somewhere in the options? My nVidia drivers do.

Just for suggestions, do you have Microsoft rodents using the Intellipoint drivers. I've run into graphical issues in 2008 with Nvidia cards but not sure whether it would fall back to 2007 & the ATI cards

    We have The Same type of issue on one of our Machines, One of our machines has the ATI Fire Gl 7200 and Have had problems with large assy's, 500+ piece. We got the Picture in Picture Affect when I set up the /3gb command in the Boot.ini
    The Machine for the most part runs well. I was just trying to get the extra memory for the larger assemblies but this machine will not run Solid Works with the 3GB command. It has picture in picture or half black screen whenever I attempt it, I am Running the Same machine with a nvidia quadroFX 3450/4000 SDI graphicws card and run the /3gb command with no Problem.

I am actually having a similar issue on a Quadro 3700. It isn't permanent though. I will be rotating a part or assembly and suddenly it stops rotating, except for a very small "window" in the center of the screen. If I let it sit for 5-10 seconds suddenly the rest of the viewport will update to whatever rotation was done to the model in the small "window".

This is very annoying. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I have the latest drivers for my video card installed. This is on SW 2008 SP4, Vista 64 bit.
