The other day I ran across a possible fix for poor performance with Microsoft's Desktop Search 3.01 - which gets installed with SolidWorks 2008. The fix is to disable the indexing of XML files in the options area. This will cause the index to have to be created from scratch again, but I am seeing great performance now that this is unchecked. The idex took a little while to do over, but is worth it. Apparently there are a lot of XML files that are generated by certain programs and can bog down performance of Desktop search as it tries to keep up with indexing them. If I can find the knowledge base articel on Microsoft I will post it.
