Anyone know what fix this has over 3.0 ?

I JUST installed 14 seats of 2008 3.0.

I sure hope that this is just some kind of minor fix that doesn't concern me.

lol.. Sorry to hear that Andy.. But on the lighter side as long as they use solidworks it looks like you have job security..

  The 3.1 release was supposed to only be for x64 Vista as a pre-release version.

  Yes, I try to be as "mysterious" about how it all gets done as I can, job security as you say! :-)

ahh.. so they probably just renamed the xp sp to 3.1 just to keep the naming convention the same..

  on XP64, core solidworks upgrade (patches only) from 3.0 to 3.1 is ~840MB. So they did change things, who knows what though. (EDIT: MANUALLY downloaded core patch was around 250MB. Not sure what my IM was tacking on to that)
  
  While we're at it, 3.0EV was the Vista x64 test release. 3.1 is the real deal, officially supported, so feel free to install it and then drive your VAR crazy when things go screwy.
  
  I didn't actually download the patch. Crazy as it sounds, I'm going to be the test monkey for Vista 64. I told the IT manager he better set up my machine to dual-boot XP just in case :-D

  If that is the only reason for creating 3.1 on the XP........what a waist of my time to download the latest SP3.1!!! I would hope this would be denoted allowing people to make decisions about downloading 3.1. I am actually downloading and was going to do the install today (on my day off) because there is no engineering or SW access required today. I actually have a quiet system. I will be mad if I am simply waisting my day to perform this update!

yea, but they released something extra with 3.1, because they released 3.0 (non-EV) I don't mind being a test monkey at times, but I like to know what they actually fixed..

  I've read that the only difference between 3.0 and 3.1 is the addition of vista 64 support. If you go to the download section on the website, XP64 and Vista 64 are both covered by the same download. The extra 250MB must just be additonal files needed on vista machines only.

Phil,
If you are updating from SW08-SP3 to SP3.1 ... you are wasting your time.
If you are updating from SW07-SP4 (from your signature) or anything less than SW08-SP3 you are not wasting your time.
