Motion Study; Assembly Motion; Linear Motor; Distance

I am creating a Motion Study of type Assembly Motion. I selected a face and create a Linear Motor and use Distance. However, the linear motor distance valued required to move the object to the proper location doesn't match the actual distance value. Why?

If I measure from the front plane of the stationary item to the front plane of the item to move I get a value (say 2m). Entering 2m into the distance of the linear motor doesn't work. I have to set the motor's distance a larger number (like 6.97m or something odd) for the item to properly move into place. Furthermore, I notice that as I add more motors into the animation time line the LARGER the distance numbers get (magnify). I can't seem to figure out the pattern.

I followed the tutorials and the manuals but I can't seem to see what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
