When I have a part opened that has it's drawing saved in a
different folder, and I right-click on the part at the top of the
model tree and click "Open Drawing", it does not find the drawing.
I have to manually open it (File, Open, then browse to it). In a
related command, when I click File, Make Drawing from Part, if
there is a drawing that is named the same file name as my part
in the same directory, SW asks if I would like to open this
part. If the drawing is saved in a different directory, SW merely
opens my list of drawing templates, then creates a new drawing,
completely ignoring the fact that a drawing is already created for
it in a different directory.
If I have the part and drawing in the same directory, both these options lead me to the drawing. This saves me a lot of time, because I don't have to click File, Open, etc. to open my drawing, I just hit CTRL+D on my keyboard. I don't remember if I set that up or if that is a default SW shortcut, but that is a shortcut to "Make Drawing from Part".
When I have the drawing open, and right-click on a view and click "Open ____.sldprt", it will lead me to the part, no matter if the part is located in the same directory or not. This seems asinine, if the drawing knows where the part is, how hard could it be for the part to know where it's drawing is???
I know what you are thinking, just put the part and drawing in the same folder, right? Well, due to circumstances beyond my control, that is not allowed in some situations.
Am I missing something? Is SW really lacking in something this basic? Is there a different command that will help me here?
